Khandallah and Ngaio are green, steep and full of big trees. That's why people love living here, and it's also why the houses get dirty. Leaves drop into the spouting all year, the bush keeps sections damp, and a lot of homes face south into the hill.
Most houses are timber or brick from the 1930s through to the 70s, on decent-sized sections. Plenty sit well above or below the road, with long driveways or steps and not much flat ground around the house.
What we usually find here
Blocked gutters. This is the big one. Oaks, natives and pines along the streets fill the gutters with leaves and sludge, and they overflow in the first heavy rain. Clearing them once a year usually isn't enough if the house is right under the trees.
Moss on shaded roofs. Roofs in the shade of trees or the hill stay wet and grow moss and lichen. A roof clean takes it off now, or a roof treatment kills it and lets the rain clear it over the next few months.
Green on the south walls. The walls that never see the sun go green, and the eaves collect mould. We soft wash them at low pressure, so weatherboards and old paint aren't damaged.
Slimy driveways and steps. Steep concrete driveways under trees get dangerous in winter. A water blast takes the moss and slime off.
Best order for the job
On a leafy section, we do the roof and gutters first, then the house wash. That way the muck from up top doesn't end up on the clean walls.

How often should gutters be cleaned under big trees?
Usually twice a year: once after the autumn leaf fall and again in spring. If they're overflowing before then, they need doing sooner.
Can you get to a house well below the road?
Yes, we work on a lot of houses like that. Longer hose runs and steps add some time, so we'll include that in the quote and tell you up front.
Will a house wash hurt my garden?
We rinse plants down before and after, and the solution is applied at low pressure, not blasted around.
